International Space Station Astronauts to Radio Link Live with Canada Agriculture Museum Day Campers


Starting at 11:14 a.m. sharp on Wednesday, July 9, 2008, children at Canada Agriculture Museum day camps will make live radio contact with an astronaut aboard the International Space Station (ISS). The children will ask the astronaut questions related to agriculture, food and space. The actual radio contact will be facilitated by a NASA-sanctioned group of volunteers called ARISS, which stands for Amateur Radio on the International Space Station.

Entrance to the Museum is on Prince of Wales Drive between the traffic circle and Baseline Road.
BACKGROUND: ARISS is a NASA-sponsored educational outreach program that has been well-received by all nations involved in the Space Station. The Canadian component has been very successful, having already made contact with the ISS from communities such as Iqaluit, Calgary, Duncan BC, Quebec City, Montreal, Sudbury and Almonte ON.

The Canada Agriculture Museum, which celebrates its 25th anniversary in October 2008, connects Canadians and the world to the historical and current importance in everyday life of agricultural science and technology through engaging interpretive activities and products centred on an accessible demonstration farm.
