The Canada Agriculture Museum celebrates the arrival of Fall! In addition to usual daily demonstrations, the Museum will present on October 4 and 5 and October 18 and 19 special weekend activities centred around Canada’s bountiful harvest. On weekends visitors can enjoy making and tasting apple cider, taking part in food preservation demonstrations, and learning all about corn and corn bread.
The following are the four additional demonstrations that will be featured October 4 and 5 and October 18 and 19 at the Museum during Harvest Weekends:
Apple Cider Making and Tasting (10:00, 11:00, 1:00, and 2:00)
What happens to all of the not so perfect apples? They are ground and pressed into cider! Visitors will love this demonstration because not only will they get to help operate the cider press, but a delicious sample of fresh cider waits for them at the end (store pasteurized cider will be served).
Corn Bread Making (11:30, 1:30, 2:30)
Visitors will be able to see a Corn Bread Making demonstration in the Corn Corner. Visitors will learn all the step by step how to make this delicious bread as well as enjoy a sample. Recipes will be available to bring home.
The Corn Corner
Visitors can participate in various activities related to this crop at the Corn Corner. A quiz, popcorn, product display and colouring are some of the activities visitors can enjoy!
Preserving the Harvest (ongoing)
Visitors can take part in food preservation demonstrations in the Demonstration Kitchen. Highlights include making jams, other preserves, and sampling of preserved foods. Recipes available to bring home.
Every day in October, visitors can learn more about Canadian agriculture and about the food and fibres that make our way of life possible.
