Happy Father’s Day at the Canada Agriculture Museum

For immediate release
June 15, 2010

OTTAWA, June 15, 2010—The Canada Agriculture Museum is celebrating Father’s Day in style on Sunday, June 20, with lots of family fun from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and free admission all day for fathers and grandfathers.

You won’t want to miss any of our Father’s Day activities, from eggs-periments to ice cream-making! Children can make a special gift for Dad, followed by a family visit to the Demonstration Kitchen where you can help bake, then taste, the perfect Father’s Day treat: pretzels! And don’t forget to look throughout the barns for clues in our “Name that Dad” scavenger hunt: a great way for young visitors to learn all about farm animal “dads”. Fathers, grandfathers, and the entire family are sure to enjoy this unforgettable day on the farm.

Demonstrations:

Baked Beer Pretzel Making and Tasting

(10:15 and 11:15 a.m.; 1:15 and 2:15 p.m.)

Stop by the Demonstration Kitchen and help our interpreters make delicious pretzels— with a special ingredient that dads are sure to appreciate. In a nod to our exciting new exhibition, Taking Care of Beesness, we’ll be serving up the pretzels with a tangy honey dip. Taste a sample, learn about some interesting ingredients, and take home a recipe to make your own pretzels for Dad.

Ice Cream Making - Memory Park

(10:30 and 11:30 a.m.; 1:30 and 2:30 p.m.)

With the help of our friendly Museum Interpreters visitors young and old alike can see how ice cream was made in the past. Dads and Granddads can put their muscles to good use as they turn the crank to make this tasty treat.

Photo Frame Craft

(ongoing)

Looking for the perfect Father’s Day gift? Young visitors will love putting a smile on Dad’s face with a photo frame they decorate just for him!

“Name that Dad” Scavenger Hunt

(ongoing)

Most people have heard of roosters and bulls, but what about “drakes”, “jacks” and “toms”? Visitors of all ages will have fun with this scavenger hunt, as they try to guess the correct names for male farm animals.

The Canada Agriculture Museum is a national institution, one of three museums within the Canada Science and Technology Museums Corporation in Ottawa. The Museum is a unique facility combining a demonstration farm located in the heart of the Nation’s Capital, and offers high-quality exhibitions and interpretation. The Museum’s facilities are located on the Central Experimental Farm: a national historic site which continues to carry out agricultural research and policy under Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. The Corporation and its three Museums—the Canada Agriculture Museum, the Canada Aviation and Space Museum, and the Canada Science and Technology Museum—tell the stories of Canadian ingenuity and achievement in science and technology, and demonstrate how these accomplishments have contributed to the building of our country.
