A Barnyard Hallowe’en at the
Canada Agriculture Museum

The Canada Agriculture Museum presents its annual Hallowe’en Party, Sunday, October 26, 2008! Visitors will love the Museum’s Barnyard Hallowe’en, with a trick-or-treat scavenger hunt in the barns, caramel apple making and pumpkin dessert making, games, a costume parade around the grounds and pumpkin decorating ($). Tally-Ho Wagon Rides ($) will also be available throughout the event, weather permitting, as well as a variety of daily demonstrations.

The following are some of the activities, displays and demonstrations that will be featured at the Museum during Barnyard Hallowe’en on Sunday, October 26 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Pumpkin Dessert Making (10:00, 11:00, 1:00, 2:00, 3:00)
Visitors can learn interesting facts about the pumpkin, see how pumpkin dessert bread and pumpkin pie are made as well as taste samples. Recipes will be available to bring home.

Caramel Apple Making (10:30, 11:30, 1:30, 2:30, 3:30)
Visitors can learn how the apple is related to Hallowe’en as well as have the chance to sweeten their tooth and taste a sample of this delicious treat. Recipe available to bring home.

Costume Parade (12:00)
Children in disguise can join a parade in Memory Park to show off their Hallowe’en costume to everyone and receive a Hallowe’en treat for their participation.

Pumpkin Decorating (ongoing)
Children can decorate, with different craft materials, a pumpkin to take home ($1 per pumpkin as long as supplies last; limit one pumpkin per child).

Scavenger Hunt (ongoing)
Visitors can go on a scavenger hunt adventure in the animal barns and exhibitions. All participants will receive a Hallowe’en treat.

Daily Demonstrations
Every day, visitors can learn more about Canadian agriculture and about the food and fibres that make our way of life possible.

  • The Hot Potato Company will provide food services on October 25 and 26.

Museum Passport
“Explore Canada's cultural treasures, its national museums, with the Museums Passport. Ottawa-Gatineau provides a uniquely capital experience through its national attractions”. The Passport is exchangeable for admission to 10 participating museums including the Canada Agriculture Museum.

Birthday Parties
Children ages 3 -12 can enjoy a MOOving Experience with games, ice cream and a special tour of the barns. Children 5 to 12 year-old can get cooking with a Pizza Party and taste the rewards of all their hard work after visiting the animals. Round ‘em Up! Children ages 7 - 12 can make "mud pie" and take a closer look at horses and herding. For information and to register call 613 991-3053.

The Canada Agriculture Museum, which celebrates its 25th anniversary in October 2008, connects Canadians and the world to the historical and current importance in everyday life of agricultural science and technology through engaging interpretive activities and products centred on an accessible demonstration farm.

Closed November 1 to February 28.

Animal Barns:
Daily 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Closed December 25. Admission is free to the Animal Barns November 1 to February 28.
