Sunny Activities in August at the Canada Agriculture Museum

August highlights at the Canada Agriculture Museum include the Knit-Out Event, Sunday, August 2nd , and a variety of informative Daily Demonstrations featured throughout the month.

Among the many daily demonstrations, visitors can have a “tasteful” experience with ice cream making and tasting, learn all about butter making and watch a milking machine in action. Also, young children can enjoy the farm-themed play structure. Museum-goers can visit the exhibitions “Tractors” and “Brewer’s Gold”. On weekends, visitors can help one of the Museum's friendly interpreters cook with sunflower seeds!

Knit-Out Event - August 2
Amateur and expert knitters of all ages are welcome to sit and knit outdoors in the Museum's Memory Park, rain or shine, on Sunday, August 2 from noon to 4:30. Participants can ask the Stitch Doctor questions about patterns, take knitting lessons, obtain free knitting starter kits and much more! Free Museum admission for knitters. Every day, visitors can learn more about Canadian agriculture and about the food and fibres that make our way of life possible.

  • Visitors can join one of the Museum's friendly interpreters in the exhibitions for a children's story and craft at 1:45 (in English) and at 2:00 (in French) Monday to Friday.
  • On weekends, visitors can help one of our friendly interpreters cook with Sunflower Seeds at 1:45 in the Demonstration Kitchen.
  • Children’s Activity Centre located on the Exhibitions level (for children 6 years old and younger).
  • Net surfers can “virtually” visit our Food for Health website at foodforhealth.ca and in the months ahead, our upcoming virtual exhibition Bees: A Honey of an Idea.
  • Museum-goers can visit the exhibition Brewer’s Gold: The History of the Hop Industry in British Columbia and the always popular Tractors exhibition.
  • On weekends, horse-drawn Tally-Ho wagon Rides ($), weather permitting.

Guided Tours of our Animal Barns are available year-round and must be arranged in advance at 613 991-3053.

Special Invitation to Seniors
Every Tuesday from March to October, seniors (60+) are admitted free.

Museum Passport
“Explore Canada's cultural treasures, its national museums, with the Museums Passport. Ottawa-Gatineau provides a uniquely capital experience through its national attractions”. The Passport is exchangeable for admission to 10 participating museums, including the Canada Agriculture Museum.

Birthday Parties
Children ages 3 -12 can enjoy a MOOving Experience with games, ice cream and a special tour of the barns. Children 5 to 12 year-old can get cooking with a Pizza Party and taste the rewards of all their hard work after visiting the animals. New in September, one free Birthday Party themed t-shirt for the birthday child is included with each birthday party package. The birthday t-shirts will also be available for sale at the boutique located at the Admission Booth! For birthday party information and to register call 613-991-3053.

The Canada Agriculture Museum, which celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2008, connects Canadians and the world to the historical and current importance in everyday life of agricultural science and technology through engaging interpretive activities and products centred on an accessible demonstration farm.

Closed November 1 to February 28.

Animal Barns:
Daily 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Closed December 25. Admission is free to the Animal Barns November 1 to February 28.

Daily demonstrations: from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
