It’s Canada Day at the Canada Agriculture Museum!

OTTAWA, June 24, 2009
For immediate release

Celebrate Canada’s birthday with a fun-filled day of activities at the Canada Agriculture Museum. The Museum will offer popular Canada Day activities such as games, a craft and colouring for children, as well as ice cream and Bannock making for the entire family. Visitors can also learn all about Canadian agriculture through our Canadian breed signs. The Canada Agriculture Museum, with its spacious grounds and fascinating indoor exhibitions, is an inviting alternative to the crowds and traffic of downtown. The Museum is centrally located and easy to reach by bus, bicycle or car. Free admission on July 1 and free parking everyday.

Canada Day Activities:

Ice Cream Making (10:00, 11:00, 1:00, 2:00 and 3:00)
Kids and grown-ups can help make ice cream using an old-fashioned hand-cranked ice-cream maker and then taste the results of their efforts. Special thanks to Neilson Dairy for donating cream and milk for these demonstrations.

Canadian Bread Making - Bannock (10:30, 11:15, 12:00, 1:30, 2:30, 3:30)
Visitors can help one of the Museum’s friendly Interpreters make Canadian bread, the Bannock, and learn all about the history of this bread, taste a sample and take a recipe home.

Strawberry Social ($) (10:30 to 2:00)
The Friends of the Central Experimental Farm will be hosting a Strawberry Social with strawberry shortcake and juice from 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., or while supplies last ($6 for one juice and one serving of cake).

Canadian Breeds (ongoing)
Visitors will learn the importance of Canadian breeds with the guidance of a series of signs throughout the barns.

The Great Canadian Agriculture Quiz (ongoing)
Museum-goers can spin the wheel of fortune to test their knowledge of Canadian agriculture.

Guess the Mystery Objects! (ongoing)
Will visitors of all ages be brave enough to put their hand into the enclosed compartments to guess, by touch only, the mystery objects?
