![]() Artifact SpotlightCity Express Delivery WagonEarly 20th centuryCanada Agriculture Museum, artifact no. 1967.0226 Years before motor trucks, road transportation of goods was done by horse-drawn delivery wagons. This one, named a “city express delivery wagon”, was for heavy loads, up to about 544 kg (1200 lbs.) and was pulled by two horses. The letters CEF on the side stand for Central Experimental Farm, where the wagon was used. The CEF was established in 1886 in Ottawa as the central research station for the federal Department of Agriculture. The Canada Agriculture Museum is featuring this wagon in celebration of the Central Experimental Farm's 125th anniversary. Artifact Spotlight archives: |
