Thanksgiving Weekend at the Canada Agriculture Museum

Join the Canada Agriculture Museum on Thanksgiving weekend for special activities centred on Canada's bountiful harvest.

Activities:

Building 95

Apple Cider Making and Tasting

10:15, 11:15, 1:15, 2:15 and 3:15

What happens to all of the not so perfect apples? They are ground and pressed into cider! Visitors will love this demonstration because not only will they get to help operate the cider press, but a delicious sample of fresh cider waits for them at the end.

Corn Corner

Visitors can participate in various activities related to this crop at the Corn Corner. A quiz, popcorn, product display and colouring are some of the activities visitors can enjoy!

Corn Bread Making

10:30, 11:30, 1:45 and 2:45

Visitors will be able to see a Corn Bread Making demonstration in the Corn Corner. Visitors will learn all the step by step how to make this delicious bread as well as enjoy a sample. Recipes will be available to bring home.

Old Cereal Barn

One Potato, Two Potato…

ongoing from 10:00-4:00

Did you know that the potato is the fourth most important food crop in the world after only rice, wheat and corn? Did you know that the potato belongs to the same family as eggplant, tomato, tobacco and deadly nightshade? Did you know that there are thousands of varieties of potatoes from the well-known Yukon Gold to the blue-fleshed Vitelotte? Come learn more about this amazing tuber and see some interesting implements used in its planting, harvesting and processing.

The Art of Leather

ongoing from 10:00-4:00 with a break from 12:00-1:00

There is more to this by-product than durable boots and stylish handbags. With expert artisan Lynn McNabb, visitors will be able to see how leather is prepared and how it can be ultimately crafted into beautiful and functional items.

Leather Craft ($)

ongoing from 10:00-4:00 with a break from 12:00-1:00

Visitors will be able to bring home a unique and personalized leather craft (stamped leather bracelets at $2.00 each or stamped leather bookmarks at $1.00 each).

Demonstration Kitchen (Exhibitions Area)

Bread Making

11:00, 1:00 and 2:00

In addition to learning all about wheat, visitors will be able to see how this important cereal crop is transformed into flour and then bread. Of course, there will also be samples to taste and copies of recipes available for visitors to bring home.

Farrier Demonstrations

Many visitors may not know that the Museum’s horses (and Eeyore the donkey) all get routine hoof care. Farrier Greg Eady will be on hand Monday to demonstrate this essential element of keeping horses hard at work and healthy. A Guide will be present to interpret his work.

Food Services

Food services from “The Hot Potato Company” will be available on site for the weekend, ($). Menu items include stuffed baked potatoes and wedges available with a variety of toppings as well as soups, salads, cold and hot beverages (coffee, tea, tisane, hot chocolate, hot apple cider).

General information

The Canada Agriculture Museum is located on the Central Experimental Farm, Prince of Wales Drive, between the traffic circle and Baseline Road. Free parking.

Admission is $7 for adults; $4 for children (ages 3–14); $6 for students and seniors; $16 for families (2 adults and 3 children); children under 3 are free.
