Canadian Horse Weekend at the Canada Agriculture Museum

June 26 and 27, 2010
10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Canadian Horse Weekend, Ottawa

The Canada Agriculture Museum in Ottawa is proud to present very special “Canadians” on June 26 and 27. These special Canadians are horses - Canadian-breed horses, which are Canada’s national horse. For a fifth consecutive year, several Canadian-breed horses will be showing off their abilities in demonstrations provided by the Upper Canada District (Ontario) Canadian Horse Breeders.

In addition to Canadian Horses, the Museum will offer a weekend full of activities such as muffin making and tasting, ice cream making and tasting and crafts.

Daily Demonstrations:

9:30 Rabbit Care – Poultry House (15 minutes)
10:00 Eggs-periments – Poultry House (15 minutes)
10:30 All About Milk – Dairy Barn (15 minutes)
11:15 Children’s Story (in English) – Taking Care of Beesness Exhibition (15 minutes)
11:30 Children’s Story (in French) – Taking Care of Beesness Exhibition (15 minutes)
1:30Ice Cream Making and Tasting* – Memory Park (20 minutes)
2:30 Meet Eeyore the Donkey - Sheep Field (15 minutes)
2:45Check out the Chickens – Poultry House (15 minutes)
4:00Afternoon Milking – Dairy Barn (30 minutes)

Activities:

Presentations from Upper Canada District (Ontario) Canadian Horse Breeders

Horse and Cattle Barn and Outside Paddock

Varied demonstrations presented by the Upper Canada District (Ontario) Canadian Horse Breeders will highlight the skills and abilities of Canada’s National Horse. Visitors can also admire the horses on show in the stalls of the Horse and Cattle Barn and learn more about the Canadian Horse through images and information on display. A detailed schedule of demonstrations will be available on site.

Muffin Making Demonstration

Visitors can help one of the Museum’s friendly Guides make carrot, apple and oatmeal muffins (ingredients preferred by horses), sample taste them, and take home a recipe.

Craft and Colouring

Children will be able to create a craft in theme of the Canadian Horse Weekend.

Food Services

  • Food services from “The Hot Potato Co.” will be available on site for the two-day event, ($). Menu items include stuffed baked potatoes available with a variety of toppings as well as soups, salads, cold and hot beverages and iced treats.

The Canada Agriculture Museum is located on the Central Experimental Farm, Prince of Wales Drive, between the traffic circle and Baseline Road. Free parking.

Admission is $7 for adults; $4 for children (ages 3–14); $6 for students and seniors; $16 for families (2 adults and 3 children); children under 3 are free.
