A Barnyard Hallowe’en, Ottawa

October 29-31, 2010

From 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
A Barnyard Hallowe’en

It’s a Barnyard Hallowe’en at the Canada Agriculture Museum! Visitors are invited to enjoy special activities just right for the occasion.

Visitors will be able to learn interesting facts about pumpkins and can then help prepare delicious desserts made from this autumnal fruit. Samples to taste and recipes to bring home are available as well.

Visitors may also want to help make caramel apples from scratch and taste the end results. Costumed visitors young and old alike can join the costume parade and show off their disguises to everyone in Memory Park.

Children will be able to decorate a pumpkin to bring home ($) and can take on the challenge of a Scavenger Hunt through the barns and exhibitions. Hallowe’en themed colouring sheets and a Hallowe’en game are also on the schedule for this festive day.

During the Barnyard Hallowe’en, experience:

Building 76

Pumpkin Decorating

Children can decorate a pumpkin with a variety of craft material (ex: pipe cleaners, yarn, stickers, etc…) and then bring it home with them. ($2.00 per pumpkin, while supplies last, limit of one pumpkin per child).

Caramel Apple Making

ongoing

Visitors will be able to learn how this fall fruit is linked to Hallowe’en and can then satisfy their sweet tooth with a tasty sample. Recipes will be available to bring home.

Memory Park

Costume Parade

12:00 p.m.

Costumed visitors are invited to take part in the costume parade and show off their cute or spooky or original costume to everyone in attendance. Treats await all the participants at the end of the parade.

Demonstration Kitchen (Exhibitions Area)

Pumpkin Dessert Making

10:00, 11:00, 1:00, 2:00, 3:00

Visitors will be able to learn interesting facts about pumpkins and can help in preparing a pumpkin dessert with one of the Museum’s Guides. Breads, cookies, muffins and pies are all in the dessert line up and recipes will be available to bring home.

Children can take a break from all the excitement and let their creativity run wild with Hallowe’en themed colouring sheets.

Guess the Mystery Objects!

We’re challenging visitors to guess what the Mystery Objects are by touch alone…Beware though, on Hallowe’en visitors should be extra wary…

Scavenger Hunt

Visitors can experience the farm and the spooky occasion as they set out on a Halloween Scavenger Hunt through the barns and exhibitions. A sweet treat awaits them once they finish. (Each participant will be given a candy when they return their paper to the admissions booth).

The Hot Potato Company will be on site to offer up a great selection of warm food and beverages. Stuffed baked potatoes, potato wedges and soups, along with soft drinks, coffee, tea, hot chocolate and hot apple cider are all on the menu.

The Canada Agriculture Museum is located on the Central Experimental Farm, Prince of Wales Drive, between the traffic circle and Baseline Road. Free parking.

Admission is $7 for adults; $4 for children (ages 3–14); $6 for students and seniors; $16 for families (2 adults and 3 children); children under 3 are free.
